Social Media In Business
Posted October 2nd, 2008 by chrishambly
Social Media in Business the one day conference is just a mere three weeks away.
I'm really looking forward to this one on a few levels.
1. it is a conference which has a star-studded line-up of speakers who are at the coal-face of social media who will share their case-studies and gems of information.
2. it has attendees whom are new to social media who are having conversations along the lines of "we need to get into youtube" or "what's happening in facebook". i.e people not in the echo chamber. This is a very good thing!
3. the networking potential of this conference is significant where new relationships will be forged and additional ideas and strategies formed.
4. top tucker for lunch (it's a very swanky hotel, what can I say)
5. I get to wear my best suit and polished shoes (no really I dig that)
So it seems many levels I'm interested in here.
Pop over and register your ticket and let's meet up.

Robin Hill

Robin Hill
Robin Hill the musician playing his guitar
As I write this small post I have Robin Hill in my head.
The reason for this post is that I have been "tagged" in a post, as part of one of those chain-tagging concepts. I have been a part of these before, though from different people.
Anna, tagged me, possibly as she knew that a site with reasonably good page rank and traffic in a somewhat related niche will help her own rankings out, if she didn't know that she does now, and so do you.
Anna states:
"3)Audio aka Chris Hambly, and Chris's site here. Because Chris is a web developer and specializes in marketing, search optimisation etc. So should understand..."
So today Anna's Robin Hill site is placed at position 6 in Google for: Robin Hill. If my strategy is correct that will change once Google re-indexes this page right here, along with my call to action from others (if they comply).
So I'm not going to stop there I am now also going to tag 6 people, that's how it works. But to also make explicit the SEO slant (hey I work in this give me a break).
You see personally, as a tag tactic I find the small "social" traffic figures of random people coming along and reading a post to be insignificant to ranking in the top three of Google... which is why you'll generally always find me getting my tool box out for that specific reason. Tagging is all well and good but I'm not that interested unless there is a search outcome.
So the following 6 people are tagged, but you are being asked to link to differing pages only with the keywords I am telling you to use below.
Why? - because I want to rank higher for these keywords plain and simple.
What must you do:
Create a link to my site using the keywords and links I specify.
- Jo positive psychology Jordan . Link as follows: "Online Education" (world domination)
- Hugh cartoons business MaCleod. Link as follows "Savile Row" (I buy suits there)
- Joanne business coach for technology Jacobs. Link as follows: "mo blog" (There I am)
- Steve microsoft security Lamb. Link as follows: "submit press releases"
- Neville intersection of business Hobson. Link as: "Web Development Consultancy" (that's what I do)
- Jedi Giovanni keyword phrase and link "Social Media Expert
(security ones too)
" (arguable definitions)
You will notice that I have tagged you with keyword phrases that you do not currently appear for (though that should change after my efforts here) - yes you can send me gifts if you like.
Once you have linked to me you tag 6 others, of course in any way you wish..

RocknRolla
Following on from the theme of Rockstar Disambiguation here we see a preview of the cracking movie RocknRolla, Guy Richie's latest work.
I have to say I enjoyed the movie immensely on many levels. The script appeals to my sense of humour right down to every last phrase, something to do with comic thrilling?
I'll be quoting lines from this film for years to come with like-mined friends.

dim3 ak7ion is game on.
Needless to say a variety of:

memorabilia is collecting.
But does it mean anything to you, personally? - are you tainted with such brushes?
Get Loaded In The Park
Posted August 25th, 2008 by chrishambly
Sometimes I enjoy taking random shots, or rather shots which are pretty much composed in a matter of seconds, you know just line the lens up and shoot while the subjects are (a) completely unaware, or (b) know they are being shot but have not had time to get into "pose".
This weekend I was at Get Loaded In The Park, (bank holiday August and all) and I had a feast of material to shoot, sadly though my batteries ran flat far too soon, but I did manage to capture a few tasty pics all the same.
The following girls were having a blast and I took my opportunity.
If you are one of the girls let me know if you find this.

Blip Fm
Posted August 23rd, 2008 by chrishambly
Blip reminds me of Twitter a fair amount, although it's not really a conversational platform like Twitter can be. Blip is touted as a DJ platform, though I must admit, for me it's even more personal than that, I'm not that bothered about what you are listening to, if you catch my drift?
The thing is with Blip, you can search for singular songs, which once found are able to be streamed immediately, which does gives instant gratification, no doubt.
I've not come up with that many empty requests or "not founds" yet either, pretty impressive. The "Songs are hosted all over the internet by different servers and websites" which basically means you'll find just about everything.
I have found that a few songs I have "Blipped" have been removed a day later or so, more than likely that the website from where it has been streamed from noticed some leaching going on and removed it, or blocked access from Blip, I guess.
Each "Blipped" song contains a "Buy Now" link which is a standard Amazon affiliate link. It's a noble gesture to want to go off and buy a track, but I have to say many of the buy now options lead to something which is not what I am hearing. This may be due to some of my more varied musical tastes mind you.
I've not found a mobile portal for this yet, but then again, it is a Flash based interface which isn't going to cut the moby world, but if they or a similar service gets the moby market sorted this could be golden golden!
I do wonder how long this service will last, unless there is some hand shaking done between vested interests, as essentially we can listen to all the music we need to with a few clicks of a button, who needs to "own" music any more anyway?
Here is me Blip embed code, by all means "friend" me up, but I'll probably not friend you back, I'm too busy listening to my favourite songs.
Let me know what you think of the service.

PhD Educational Technology
Posted July 26th, 2008 by chrishambly
So I am thinking I need to get my PhD mind-set back on track.
It's been too long "off the boil" and now is a probably a good time to start working towards formalising more thoughts. I'm in a place where I can more than likely establish strong connections with study and professional practise.
My Masters is in the field of Educational Technology, specifically focussed on distance learning, and my PhD is likely to also be in a similar field, though possibly slanted with a little curvature towards non-educational environments too.
PhDs are not for the faint hearted, but my heart is strong and this is a challenge for me, not for you. I think it is very important to understand that, you know, the reasons we embark on journeys, what are the motivators, what is the point?
Understanding motivational reasons for study can in fact help you discover a great deal about yourself. For example study for me is basically concerned with two key motivators.
- The research enables me to more effective in my career (both strategic understanding and practical doing)
- The research gives me a sense of inner-challenge (I'm not interested in waving my qualifications at you, but I want to prove to myself I am capable)
Your own explicit or implicit reasons are something you can all ponder on..
Chris Hambly
