Summer Cottages

With some of the most perfect beaches in the British Isles, Wales is an ideal destination for all who enjoy swimming, sunbathing or just building sand castles.

For families with young children the additional safety of lifeguarded beaches like Aberporth, Llangrannog, Newgale, Newquay, Saundersfoot, Tenby, Tresaith and Whitesands.

Those who seek to be "far from the madding crowd" will delight in Abereiddy, Barafundle, Ceibwr Bay, Mwnt Penbryn and Pwllgwaelod.

Some of our beaches have truly large expanses of sand (Gwbert, Newgale Sands, Newport, Pembrey, Pendine, Poppit Sands and Whitesands Bay) where you can indulge in a range of sports from horse riding to sand yachting.

West Wales has a multitude of gardens to visit.

There are also a wide variety of private gardens that are worthy of exploration. The linked map we have devised shows most of them and their locations.

Probably the best known are The National Botanic Gardens and the gardens lost in time, Aberglasney - both in Carmarthenshire. The National Trust has two, both well worth a visit - cottage gardens at the restored "Gentleman's Estate" of Llannerchaeron and at Colby Lodge near Amroth.

Two castles - Picton Castle" and Upton also have gardens of note. There are also a number of private Gardens that are open on certain days of the year through the National Gardens Scheme.

Our Agricultural Shows are family events where you can see (& touch) farm animals at close quarters, watch sheepdog demonstrations, tractors dancing and you can buy almost anything (from jams to houses)

The largest local show is undoubtedlly the Pembrokeshire Show at Hvaerfordwest, but there are many others: Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Fishguard,Lampeter, Landeilo, Martletwy, Llandysul,Nevern, Teifyside, Pembroke. The biggest in Wales is just over an hour's drive from West Wales - The Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells.

Their are a wide variety of other shows ranging from the largest Vintage Steam Show in Wales over three days at Croeslan to small Pony Club events almost every week. Coracle Races in Cilgerran, Barley Saturday at Cardigan Food & River Festivals. There now even a Pembrokeshire fish festival.

Then, if you really want to treat yourself - there are the Craft Festivals. With probably more Artists, Sculptors, Potters, Jewellers and Wood Turners per square mile than the rest of the British Isles (probably not true, but there are a lot!) the range of beutifully made craft products is astonishing. Welsh cottages ranges in size from the agricultural or fisherman's small traditional cottage (a few are in fact tŷ un nos - a house built in one night), to quite grand cottages built by prosperous farm owners. They can be seen in all parts of rural Wales - whitewashed above the sea, walls of stone on the high on hillsides and, in some places, with traditional black and and white timber work and thatched roofs.

With the great changes in farming over the last fifty years many outbuildings like barns and granaries have been converted to self catering accommodation. These make wonderfully spacious holiday accommodation.

Some of our cottages are actually on the beach. From many you can access the coastal path round Pembrokeshire.
