We recently had a kind of denial of service attack. This meant our server was being hit more than 10 times a second from some IP. It may well have just been a rouge script gone wrong.

Anyway we tried putting the IP into the htaccess which did prevent them from using too much bandwidth but still the error and access logs were filling up to about 90meg a day, not good!

So we simply picked up the phone informed our hosts and immediately the IP was firewalled.

This can be done easily through ssh, but we were short of time, so the hosts catered for us.

This type of support cannot be under estimated.
