|
|
My heartbreaker was getting eliminated at 45 when the payout of $10,000 was to 42 places in a $1K WSOP event this year. And it was on a bad beat! I felt like going up to the 30th floor of the RIO, and jumping out a closed window, onto a pile cactus! Want the story??? Can I tell it here?!!.
The table is playing tight as we are down to the bubble. I'm short stack, having about about 2 1/2 times the blind in chips. I'm in early position and go all-in w/ KJ suited hoping to take the blinds. As I expected the table folds around to the blind, who is healthy with chips. He say, "If I don't call, the table will beat me up." and show his T2 off suit. The flop is three rags. The turn is a rag. The river is a 2. Son of a bitch! He won with a 2 2, and I went looking for the 30th floor of the RIO. Then I remembered I had another game the next day and saw a show instead.

You may as well be talking in Greek, as this makes no sense to me what so ever.
Anyone know what he is on about? |

| My post was spoken in clear poker language. I'll be happy to help you decipher any of it if you note something that is unclear. |

By "heartbreaker" I meant it was a sorrowful hand for me because I was knocked out of the tournament at that time.
By "45th"......there were only 45 players in the tournament at the time.
Money was given to the remaining 42. I was knocked out three from the money, and got nothing. We were playing 7 1/2 hours at the time.
WSOP stands for World Series of Poker.
"The Bubble" indicates the placement of a player who is on the verge of being knocked out of a tournament just out of the money.
K = King
J = Jack
T= Ten
Offsuit= two cards of different suits
The blind = the ante in Hold 'em poker.
Flop = the first three cards on the board in Hold 'em
rags = cards that don't help
Rio = the hotel where the WSOP was held |

Early position are the two seats left of the big blind. It is not a preferred position as they have to act first. It is better to act last in Hold 'em, so you can see what everyone else had done.
All-in means I bet all my chips.
I had a King and Jack of spades giving me the added possibility of a 6.4% chance of a flush, besides having two rather high cards looking to pair.
A tight table is one where no one wants to risk a bet unless they have a very good hand.
But the Big blind, the guy who put in the bigger ante called.
If he did not I would have collected his ante as well as the small blind, and might have survived to make the cut. |

He had a ten and a two of different suits in his pocket cards.
He did not pair until the river where a two came out. He won with a pair of twos. |

Ya know, I think you are pulling my leg. I see you are a site administrator....of a poker forum....and, uh, I find it hard to believe you don't speak "poker-ese". Never-the-less, I'm enjoying conversing with you.
The "river" is the last common card displayed on the table. By the way, a "ten/two" in the pocket is a famous hand. Doyle Brunson won a World Series Event with it some years ago. |

NO really, sure site admin, but Poker language is completely lost on me, I know absolutely zero about the subject which is why I am asking.
The descriptions also help many others I would think. I'm sure I won't remember it all but it's a start, so thanks
This one "The flop is three rags" ? |

The "flop" are the first three community cards turned over by the dealer.
"Rag" is a term for a card which which does not help the hand.
For instance, if I hold a King and Jack of spades in the pocket, and the flop is a 3 hearts, 5 diamonds, and 8 clubs, these would be called three rags.
My pleasure. |
