Friday, October 12, 2007 - Berkeley Institute attended the inauguration of the Teletech Cebu Delivery Center to mark the BPO company’s successful operation for a year.

Oscar Fudalan Jr., the Program Director of Berkeley, was there together with top-notch Cebu City businessmen, executives, and other invited business partners.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was the honorary guest in the A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City delivery site and led the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of the company marker, signifying the official opening of the company.

Teletech Vice President and General Manager for Asia Maulik Parekh, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Congressman Tony Cuenco, Congresswoman Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, and Tourism Secretary Ace Durano received the President at the site.

Presently, Teletech employs 1,100 in Cebu and 12,000 Filipinos in 10 centers in the country.

The company plans to increase to 25,000 its total employees in the Philippines by 2009.

Teletech is planning to open five to eight additional facilities in different parts of the country in the next two years.

In his speech, Teletech executive director for operations Alejandro Maralit said the expansion is in line with the company’s worldwide growth plans, which will generate about 900,000 new jobs by 2010.

Of the proposed additional facilities in the Philippines, one would be established this year in Tacloban City, said Maralit in a press conference during the inauguration of Teletech Cebu last week.

Teletech has 50,000 employees worldwide and its operations in the Philippines are considered the biggest outside North America, said Maralit.

Teletech vice president and general manager for Asia Maulik Parekh said the company’s growth in the Philippines is “the fastest and may go stronger than North America.”

He said the Philippines is among the top three countries, in terms of employment, and is the choice destination for voice BPO services.

He said the Teletech clients are happy with Filipino call agents because of their accent and work ethics.

Maralit said the company’s hiring rate is 12 percent of total applicants. This month, for instance, it hired 150 people for Cebu, he added.
