Malaysia Preferred by Chinese Travelers

Contributed by rncos on Saturday, June 30 @ 08:35:08 EDT

Malaysia ranked sixth among the destinations preferred by the Chinese travelers as per a survey by a global market insight and information group

Malaysia ranks 6th amongst the preferred destination for Chinese travelers after Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea and Thailand, as per a study by Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), a global market insight and information group.

The study also expressed that due to Hong Kong's latest scandals involving the trade of fake goods to Chinese travelers its image as the most preferred destination has taken a set back. As a result countries like Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia have gained from its fallout.

Owing to Malaysia’s stable government, vibrant economy and plural culture, the country is heading towards a tourism boom regardless of the alleged global recession in air travel and tourism industry.

Siti Norbaya Abdul Manaf, managing director at TNS (M'sia) Sdn Bhd, in a statement published by Bernama.com on June 4, 2007, said the Malaysian government, particularly the Malaysian Tourism Board must pay attention to the findings as presently Malaysia is among the top most destinations preferred by the Chinese travelers.

The above survey findings were also supported by the RNCOS’ recent report "Opportunities in Malaysian Tourism Industry (2007-2009)”, as per which, Malaysian tourism industry is one of the key foreign exchange earners for the country with the tourist influx from China expected to remain a vital influence throughout the estimated period (2007-2011). China will remain an important influence for the Malaysian Tourism Industry, as the majority of Chinese tend to weight their spending towards consumer purchases as opposed to luxury hotel accommodation. For the first quarter of 2007, Malaysia received 174,842 visitors from China. This is an increase of 56.1% over the first quarter of 2006. China is the fifth largest market for Malaysia

RNCOS’ report further addresses some interesting issues for today’s global business environment such as position of Malaysia tourism industry with respect to the ASEAN tourism industry, opportunities that exist for the Tourism industry in Malaysia as well as challenges being faced by the industry.

The report provides an extensive research and objective analysis of the Malaysian tourism industry and help clients in analyzing the opportunities critical to its growth.
