Contributed by MN_Nikk on Saturday, January 06 @ 08:45:29 EST

Here's another reason for men to avoid packing on extra pounds over the holidays: A new study has found that losing weight reduces the risk of an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

If there has ever been an incentive for men to lose weight then this is the one. Studies show that by losing weight men can seriously reduce their risk of an aggressive form prostate cancer.

The study consisted of nearly 70,000 men that were tracked by researchers from the American Cancer Society between 1982 and 2003. The study which was reported in 'Cancer Epidemiology, Biomakers and Prevention', the study indicated that men who lost more than 11lbs had a lower risk of developing an aggressive form of prostate cancer than men whose weight remained the same over the decade.

Dr. Carmen Rodriguez said men should avoid becoming overweight as they get older.

"The main message for men is to not get overweight. If they are overweight, that's another reason to try to lose weight, just to decrease the risk for prostate cancer".

This study is one of the largest and best studies examining the role of weight in regards to prostate cancer and its findings should become a major motivator for men of all ages to lose weight.
