Contributed by newsprovider on Friday, October 03 @ 10:32:33 EDT

3 October 2008 – Education Now!, a new television programme covering issues affecting the further education sector will launch this Monday (6 October) on the Community Channel*.

The show will be broadcast at 12:30 and 18:30 Monday to Friday, with a late showing at 00:30. Education Now! is produced by leading online broadcaster WebsEdge and will run for eight weeks initially, before rolling out on a permanent basis in Spring 2009. The show contains news and current-affairs style programming debating the main themes of the education sector alongside filmed reports from up and down the country. Themes for the first eight episodes include lifelong learning, exam results, technology and staff development. An accompanying website will be released in November 2008. The first episode will cover a visit to some colleges including Hartlepool College, Tyne Metropolitan College and Stockport College to look into exam results and discuss whether targets and league tables provide a distorted picture of colleges’ and students’ success. WebsEdge produces television channels including Global Health TV and the Local Government Channel. The organisation also produces video content for a range of clients in the public and private sectors, from PricewaterhouseCoopers to the NHS. Stephen Horn, the company’s Chief Executive Officer comments: “Our research revealed a gap in the market for a programme catering specifically to the needs of the further education sector. We hope that people working in the industry will be able to use Education Now! as a resource to keep up to date on industry developments.” Des O Hare, Director of Management Services, Association of Colleges, comments: “We look forward to the arrival of Education Now, a show that will feature latest news and views from colleges up and down the country. We are excited that it will provide colleges the opportunity to showcase their latest developments and will give colleges, students and teachers a presence. We encourage colleges to tune in to this weekly show for news from the world of further education." *Community Channel: Sky 539 • Virgin TV 233
