Questioning the Extent of Global Warming

The Rt. Hon. Lord Lawson of Blaby launches hard-hitting new book

Burnham, UK, July 31st, 2008: Lord Lawson, former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Secretary of State for Energy, has recently completed his latest book – An Appeal to Reason: A Cool Look at Global Warming, where he concludes that global warming is not the devastating threat to the planet it is widely supposed to be. Whilst Lord Lawson does not question the existence of the greenhouse effect, or of climate change, he does argue that the conventional wisdom on the subject is suspect on a number of grounds: that global warming is not the threat to the planet it is widely alleged to be: and that the remedy that is currently being proposed, which is in any event politically unattainable, would be worse than the threat it is supposed to avert. In an exclusive interview, CSA Celebrity Speakers asked Lord Lawson what climate myths most irritated him and why. He replied “There are many climate myths, but four which greatly irritate me are firstly the assertion that the science is ‘settled’ when it clearly isn’t; secondly the claim that the warming that occurred during the last quarter of the last century was unprecedented, when there are well documented warm periods in history; thirdly the assumption that any adverse climatic phenomenon must be due to (allegedly man-made) global warming and fourthly with the regular description of carbon dioxide emissions as ‘pollution’, whereas in fact carbon dioxide, so far from being a pollutant, is (like oxygen) a life force”. Lawson’s book is argued with logic, common sense, and even wit, and thoroughly sourced and referenced and concludes by outlining the form a rational response to global warming should take, and explains why the mistaken conventional wisdom has become the quasi-religion it is today and the dangers that this presents.
