Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 23 July 2008 – ‘Deploying strong value propositions in each south east Asian country’ is one of the key messages behind this year’s SE AsiaCom in Kuala Lumpur. Leading wireless application solution provider, Altobridge, has one of the strongest value propositions for operators throughout the region – its Local Connectivity solution combined with its Split-BSC Architecture. Altobridge is currently working in partnership with operators Maxis, in Malaysia, and MobiCom, in Mongolia, to deliver cost-effective rural communications to isolated public and enterprise communities. The Local Connectivity solution and the Split-BSC Architecture offer operators two outstanding opportunities: • to remove unnecessary transmission costs incurred when local calls are backhauled, by keeping local calls local; • to restrict the use of expensive satellite bandwidth, only using it ‘On-Demand’ instead of ‘Always-On’, freeing up vital capacity.. Regional Manager for Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Peter Tuomey, will be presenting an important paper at the 23 July event, entitled: “Reducing the cost of transmission – A Major Value Proposition for South East Asia”. This paper illustrates how these two technological breakthroughs in Local Connectivity and on-demand use of satellite bandwidth can be combined to deliver the world’s most cost-effective solution for remote communities. The paper will look at the challenges facing operators in remote regions throughout Asia, including the high cost of transmission to isolated communities, which remains the biggest barrier to the provision of services. But Tuomey’s paper will not simply present the audience with the problem, it will offer a breakthrough solution using the combined power of Altobridge’s unique, patented Split-BSC Architecture and its Local Connectivity solution, which deliver a powerful, cost-effective means of providing profitable communications services to even the smallest, isolated populations. Altobridge CEO, Mike Fitzgerald said, “Our Local Connectivity solution keeps local traffic local removing the cost of traffic being backhauled unnecessarily across the network, and this is achieved without impacting the standard signaling protocols of the core network. Then, with our Split-BSC Architecture, we take the core network element that controls base stations and we split it, creating a unique ‘on-demand’ solution, which is the most operationally efficient on the market today. “When we combine these two breakthrough technologies, MNOs can benefit from the most operationally efficient communications solution for remote communities currently available, particularly for smaller locations of between 50 and 500 subscribers,” Fitzgerald concluded. Altobridge technology is already at the heart of the world’s first cost-effective mobile phone system for commercial aircraft, launched recently by AeroMobile and flying initially with Emirates and Qantas. The company’s solution to provide standard, cost-effective mobile communications to the world’s merchant maritime industry is also available today from Blue Ocean Wireless. Both use versions of the Split-BSC architecture in these high-profile, proven applications.
