The Carphone Warehouse announces the launch of a 10.2" Ultra Mobile Personal Computer (UMPC), the highly portable "webbook", powered by Elonex Technology.
Carphone Warehouse, one of the UK's leading mobile phone retailers, is ahead of the market with the webbook being the world’s first 10.2” notebook of its kind, ideal for people on the move. The webbook is available this month for free on contract, exclusively in their stores across the country and via the Carphone Warehouse online store.
For a portable computer so small, the webbook offers unparalleled performance with the device running on either Linux or Windows XP and comes with integrated Wi-Fi, (allowing users to take full advantage of their Carphone Warehouse TalkTalk broadband connection), Web Browser, 3 USB ports, 1.6GHz processor, 512MB of memory and built in memory card readers.
Weighing in at only 1.3kg the webbook allows the user to easily access to the Internet, download music and access emails, as well as providing basic word processing and spreadsheet software. It is the perfect notebook for those who lead a busy life, whether running from the boardroom to the bar, or the car to the classroom. The screen may be just 10.2" in display size but boasts full size document and file viewing. Combine this with a fully-enabled standard 84 key QWERTY keyboard and users are getting everything they would expect from a high performance laptop, in a pint-sized design. Customers can choose between a white or black model of the laptop. The standard model has 2GB of solid state flash memory, although this can be substituted for a 2.5in hard disk drive.
The WebBook is available this month and is free of charge when users take out a broadband package from The Carphone Warehouse at stores across the country and a whole range of webbooks, powered by Elonex Technology are set to be released later this year, further cementing the brand's move into the wireless market.
