Too Much Internet and Video Games and Not Enough Reading.

ebeanstalk’s child-experts and over 700 moms picked the best children’s books

Norwalk, CT – May 15th, 2008 – These days it is difficult to compete for your child’s attention given the Internet, video games and television. Yet, exposing children to books at a very early age will jumpstart a child’s fascination with books, help develop an avid little reader AND give you more quality time with your little ones. But what books do you pick?

Our experts and moms took the guesswork out finding great books for your baby or toddler. Collectively, the experts and moms looked at over 500 books and selected what they consider to be the best. Then, the child-experts, based on their knowledge of how children learn to read, matched each book to the stage of a child’s development. The books range from something as basic as a “Photo Book” for an infant or “Pinkalicious” or how “How Do Dinosaurs Go to School” for older toddlers.

“I’m very excited about our collection books”, says Patrick Moore, ebeanstalk’s co-founder. He adds, “Our goal was to create a manageable list of wonderful books to make the buying process VERY easy – and I think we’ve done just that. We have just over 70 books, each matched to the stage of a child’s development. Now a parent or aunt or uncle can purchase a great age appropriate book, without taking a lot of time.”

Shari Harpaz, ebeanstalk’s Speech Pathologist says, “A great way to spend quality time with your child is reading to them and this should begin when they are infants. While most children will begin to read between the ages of 5-6 years, younger children need to gain the foundation of pre-reading skills. We don’t often think of reading when it comes to our toddlers, but they start hearing about the ABCs in songs and begin gaining letter recognition starting at around 2 years of age. Rhyming, recognizing first sounds in words, and syllable awareness are all phonemic awareness skills your child has before they are ready to start reading.”

"Books represent a cornerstone of our business,” said Brian Gordon, co-founder of ebeanstalk. “We are committed to helping ensure the proper development of children and adding books to ebeanstalk is a logical extension. Over time, we will continue to add to our already great selection. ”

Ebeanstalk is a business dedicated to a child’s development, as we are planting the seeds that help children grow. Ebeanstalk’s Child Specialists and MotherBoard identified the best developmental toys, games and books available in the market today and matched each to the stage of a child’s development.
