The family-friendly publisher launched their promotion in late November, asking for holiday-themed ideas and recipes frm their readers. The contest received more that 100 entries, over 75 of which were published on the Web site's special holiday section and in select ezines (e-mail newsletters). Regardless of whether a tip was published, each was entered into a series of five drawings for $40 Amazon gift certificates. Judy Smith received the fifth and final prize of the promotion.
"We received a lot of very thoughtful and useful entries," says Scott Wolf, CEO of ArcaMax Publishing. "Our readers weren't concerned with simply sending things in to get a chance at the prizes. The gift certificates ended up being secondary to the opportunity to share their ideas with a large audience."
Over the course of the promotion, readers sent in tips on everything from cooking a holiday dinner to finding the perfect gift for your pet. The tips make up the majority of the content on the holiday site, which can be viewed at http://www.arcamax.com/cgi-bin/news/channel/1036 . This section is just one part of the Web site's holiday feature, which contains even more holiday tips. The Recipes section has holiday dishes covering everything from the perfect turkey to what to do with the leftovers. For advice outside the kitchen, there's consumer news covering the shopping season, as well as tips for decorating and safety around the house.
For those looking to give a little more, there's also information on charities and toy drives around the country. Readers looking for something on the lighter side can read fun facts about Christmas in other parts of the world, as well as trying out trivia quizzes and vocabulary games.
Wolf adds, "This is the sort of content you can only get from individuals and families. We wanted to offer our readers that feeling of sharing and friendship for the holidays - and clearly, our readers wanted to share it as well."
