Institute explores the value of business skills
‘Finding the business value of skills – moving from training costs
to business benefits’ is the topic for the first of the Institute of IT
Training (IITT)’s programme of special, one-day seminars – each
one covering a major issue in training today. The seminar takes place in London
on 30th June.
The seminar’s organiser, Vaughan Waller of the Technologies for Business
and Learning (TBL) consultancy, commented: “If corporate training had
no business value then it would not be done and the corporate training industry
would not exist. At the same time, business value and return on investment are
often seen as either the same thing or, at least, two sides of the same coin.
“The real value of training - and specifically that of IT skills - is
in the response to real business needs. But how do you determine what the business
value of training is before rather than after the event?”
Seminar speakers include:
· Deborah Taylor-Young of Spring IT Training, Henry Stewart of Happy
Computers and Carol Hulm of the NHS, who will be outlining the value of IT skills
to the NHS.
· Jonathan Kettleborough, of Corollis Limited, who will explain how
to run a training department as a business, including pointing out how to get
the best from your budget and your suppliers.
· Hugh Tollyfield, deputy director of Skills for Success at the DfES,
who will speaking on ‘why skills mean business’.
· Alan Bellinger, who will describe the IITT’s programme for getting
training management off the ‘cost’ page and onto the ‘value
page’.
Colin Steed, chief executive of the IITT, commented: “Designed to highlight
best practice and provide practical guidance, the seminars are intended for
those involved in developing training strategies; training managers responding
to the demands of senior management; those attempting to improve or enhance
their organisations’ training provision and those wanting to explore alternative
delivery platforms.”
Delegate places at these events are priced at £195 + VAT for IITT members
and £295 + VAT for non-members. Some ‘early bird’ and ‘bulk
