The Lupus Alliance of America Long Island/Queens Affiliate announces that several local schools are “Getting into the Loop, “ and joining in the fight against lupus. The Lupus Alliance of America LI/Q Affiliate announced earlier this year that to celebrate their 50th Anniversary
they would introduce several new awareness campaigns. The Alliance is happy to report that many schools in
the local area have signed up to support the Alliance by selling their Lupus bracelets, and butterflies, and have
raised over $2,400 to date.
The following schools are actively participating in these campaigns by holding sales events in their schools;
Hillcrest High School in Jamaica, Robert Moses Middle School and North Babylon High School, in N. Babylon,
Progress High School and John Dewey High School in Brooklyn, Grand Avenue Jr. High School in Bellmore, Marion
Street School in Lynbrook, Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Jackson Ave. Middle School in Mineola, and Signal
Hill Elementary School in Dix Hills.
The Alliance wishes to thank each school for choosing to support them in their endeavor to spread the word
about lupus, a disease that affects almost 2 million Americans, 90% of them women of child bearing age, and
many of them school age children themselves. The Alliance hopes that these awareness campaigns will put
lupus into the spotlight and help bring about a cure to this sometimes-overlooked disease.
For more information about lupus or how your school can help with the Lupus Alliance’s butterfly and bracelet
awareness campaign, please call the office at 516-783-3370 or e-mail them at info@lupusliqueens.org.
Schools that raise money for the Alliance will be featured monthly on the Alliance’s, “Donors of the Month” page on their
Web site. Lupus ribbon car magnets are also available for fundraisers. Call for more information.
