Dawna Lee Heising and David McNeil Interview Heart Disease Survivors at OC Heart Walk "Eye on Entertainment" filmed an episode of the show at the 28th Annual Orange County Heart Walk that took place at the Irvine Spectrum on September 14, 2008. Special features of the event included the 5K Heart Walk, VIP Booth, Health Expo, Kids’ Zone, Kid’s Fun Run, Survivor Café, an appearance by the Laker girls and performances by live bands.
Dawna Lee Heising and director David McNeil interviewed heart disease survivors, including:
• Reigning Miss International, Jayna Altman, who was born severely premature and suffered from several health issues as a baby. She spent the first three months of her life in the intensive care unit and underwent several procedures, including open-heart surgery to repair a defective heart valve.
• Paul and Carol Catalano, who have been married for over 30 years and have battled heart disease together most of that time. They are regular participants in the Start! Orange County Heart Walk and are dedicated volunteers for the American Heart Association.
• Lucinda Wright, who suffered a stroke three years ago. Fortunately, a co-worker had recently introduced her to the American Heart Association’s Train to End Stroke program, and she had just completed her first marathon. Because of her association with that program, she was aware of the warning signs and was able to tell hospital staff that she was having a stroke. She received immediate attention and avoided serious damage from the stroke.
Dawna and Steven Hocking served as co-chairmen of the VIP Booth, which was set up as a thank you for donors of at least $1,000 to the American Heart Association. Breakfast was provided by the Balboa Bay Club. Carl and Veronica Billingsley and Tim Bell of Edible Arrangements in Long Beach and Nancy Caruso of Edible Arrangements in Westminster donated numerous delicious fruit arrangements and gift baskets, including a huge Berry Chocolate Bouquet, which were the hit of the VIP booth.
