Leave it to chance that the most spectacular visual ever-painted in Italy will get a face-lift. Although the effort one Charleston artist is taking is a great feat, all fingers are crossed to see what will be unveiled August 22nd during what is called, “Converted Gems: The Michelangelo Remix”.
Charleston, August 6, 2008 - When world-renowned Italian artist Michelangelo painted upon the ceiling of The Sistine Chapel in 1508, the world marveled at the amazing fresco depicting God’s Creation of the World, God’s Relationship with Mankind and Mankind’s Fall from God’s Grace. To this day it is a sight to behold, that after five hundred years a painting so remarkable have captured such profound detail in artistry, so why would it need a make over. The Sistine Chapel as we know of is one of histories legendary stories characterizing a biblical time line worthy of telling. Fascinated by the attentiveness to the details displayed in the masterpiece, millions of people from around the world travels to Vatican City to bare witness to the 12,000 square feet of painted chapel ceiling only to stand in awe. Now Kermin Middleton, a native of Charleston South Carolina is putting his magic touch to make over The Sistine Chapel, and is hoping the world will accept what he’s doing in good taste. A graduate of The Atlanta Art Institute, Kermin’s artistic ability derives from an urban ethnicity that the artist says will not ruin the representation behind the famed painting by Michelangelo. But add the touch of a contemporary technique that he anticipates will speak for itself, setting him apart from other artists. Although critics, scholars and artist alike shun the idea of making over The Sistine Chapel as being a territory worthy of never attempting, to their dismay “Converted Gems: The Michelangelo Remix” will be unveiled 7pm August 22nd, at Castleberry Hills in Atlanta in spite of the criticism.
