SAN FRANCISCO, May 12, 2004-Founded by Josh Krist, who has reported for the AP from Jerusalem and has traveled extensively, and Helene Goupil, a fellow world traveler who most recently lived and worked in Japan at the tail end of an around-the-world trip, InsideOut Travel Magazine (www.insideoutmag.com) aims to inspire first-time travelers with practical tips and help chronic wanderers stay connected with the open road while stuck at home earning money for the next journey.
"There's nobody doing exactly what we're doing," said Krist, who has ten years of international editing and reporting experience. "We're online because half our readers access us from outside the US and we hear from people who read us in cyber cafes throughout the world all the time. We''re a real magazine, with regular features and sections, but we make it as painless and inexpensive as possible for our readers to find us and stay in touch. We''re budget travelers for budget travelers."

Helene Goupil was inspired to start the magazine when she returned from her trip and couldn''t find a travel publication that was truly for the budget traveler, but was more than a forum (of which there are many good ones), or travel blog.

"Most travel magazines I read talked about $300-a-night hotels and what celebrities have been spotted there. As a budget traveler, I want to read good travel stories about places I can really afford to go to. I want to hear the kind of stories that only happen when you''re on the road, open to everything," Goupil said.

The magazine has recently launched live events in the budget travel Mecca of San Francisco, and is planning another one for June.

"InsideOut Travel Magazine (http://www.insideoutmag.com) is for anyone who''s interested in budget travel whether you''ve already done it or you''re still in the daydreaming stage," Goupil said. "Our readers are a lot like Josh and me-people who can''t stay somewhere too long and want some ideas on how to prepare for their next trip or how to stay healthy if they're reading us on the road."

Highlights of this issue include an article about giardia in Guatemala, a train ride in China and the story of six people who got jobs abroad and how anyone can do the same.
